How to Measure Blinds

Measuring for window treatments is much easier than most people think!  Just follow these tips:

Print as many copies of our Easy Measurement Chart as necessary. (3 windows per page)
Use a steel measuring tape.
Measure to the nearest eighth (⅛) of an inch.
Measure each window's width and height 3 times and enter your results on our Easy Measurement Chart.
Circle the SHORTEST WIDTH and the LONGEST LENGTH.

Horizontal Blinds

Inside Mount:
Measure the opening width at the top, center and bottom, recording the narrowest width.  Measure the height left, right and center, recording the longest height.

Outside Mount:

Measure the opening width.  If there is room, add at least 3 inches to each side of the window opening for minimum light gap and maximum privacy.  Measure the opening height.  Add a minimum of 2 inches in height to allow for mounting brackets above the opening and add your desired overlap for the bottom

How To Measure Patio Doors

To find width:
Measure the width of the area to be covered at the place where the headrail will be installed to the nearest ⅛ inch.  Blind should overlap opening at least 4 inches on each side to ensure privacy.

To find length:
Measure the length of the area to be covered and round down to the nearest ⅛ inch.  Blind should extend at least 3 inches above opening or window molding.

For ceiling to floor installations, deduct ½ inch for proper clearance.

*TIP:  To ensure easy access through the door and allow adequate overlap, consider the stack width.
